Serra Swimshort
The Serra is our take on the classic swim short: quick-dry, mesh-lined and cut with a 4-inch inseam, with pockets for the essentials.
The Bas Bains Story
Bas Bains began in Barcelona, with a simple wish: a different pair of swimwear for every swim. Our prints and vivid colors are what make us recognisable. Each season starts with ideas from our founder, Sebastiaan, which are brought to life by our print designer in Spain. Every print is a reference to the Mediterranean: its coastlines, the colors, the architecture and artists who lived there. Like the souvenir you bring home from a trip, a pair of Bas Bains swimwear is made to take you back there.
Where is Bas Bains made?
Every piece is made in Barcelona, by the same family-run factory we've worked with since day one. Our prints are printed nearby, so design, printing, and production all happen close together. We produce in small runs, so each print is made in limited numbers.
Our slips and sungas are made from premium Italian ECONYL® regenerated nylon, made from fishing nets recovered from the sea and other discarded materials, blended with elastane for stretch and shape. The Serra Short is made from deadstock recycled polyester: surplus fabric that would otherwise have gone to waste.
Is Bas Bains sustainable?
We look at every detail to try and source better alternatives. Our slips and sungas are made from ECONYL® regenerated nylon, created from recovered fishing nets and other waste. Where we can, we use deadstock: surplus fabric that would otherwise have been wasted. Our Serra Short is made from it. The drawcords, garment labels, mesh lining and swing tags are all recycled, down to the small cord that attaches the tag. Our packaging is kept to a minimum, and small production runs mean we make only what we need.
What are the Bas Bains swimshorts like?
The Serra Short is an easy, boxy swim short with an elasticated waistband and drawcord, a faux fly and two pockets. It's lined with a fine recycled mesh and cut with a 4inch inseam. Like all our pieces, it's named after a place on the Mediterranean.
How do the swim shorts fit?
True to size. The elasticated waistband and drawcord let you adjust the fit, so they're comfortable from the first swim to the last drink of the day.
Which style is right for me?
It comes down to how much you want to show. The Serra Short is the easy, relaxed choice. The Elia Slip is the classic brief style. The Paradis Sunga is the bolder statement, and the one its fans keep coming back for.
Are they quick-drying?
Yes. The Serra Short's lightweight fabric dries quickly, so you can go from the water to lunch without changing.
How should I care for my Bas Bains?
Please don't put your swimwear in the washing machine. After every swim, rinse it in cool fresh water and hang it to dry, ideally flat and in the shade. The fabric holds its shape well, but drying flat keeps the Elia and Paradis at their best. Chlorine breaks down the fibres over time, so limit time in chlorinated pools and rinse straight after. If you want to remove creases, a light steam is all it needs, though it rarely does.
Preserving a place
We believe that to protect the places we love, environmental consciousness must be embedded at every step, from how fibres are made to what happens to them once they’ve been well used.
